The ideals of Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority are specifically those of higher educational development, good citizenship, individual character and fellowship, and opposition to discrimination. Through the practices of these ideals, Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority continues to perpetuate into the 21st century.
The founding principal of Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority is to develop the highest philanthropic ideals possible within each chapter and individual sister. Providing service to others is the cornerstone upon which this Sorority was built. Each chapter continues to build on that through various service projects and activities for both the campus and the surrounding community.
Past endeavors include the United Way, Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Big Sister Program, Special Olympics, Homeless Shelters, as well as an annual National Philanthropic Project.
Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority’s roots began with the founding of Kappa Lambda at Husson College in Bangor, Maine, in the fall of 1971. Encouraged by its growth and prosperity, other chapters were established at various colleges and universities throughout the northeastern part of the US. The chapters were and still are linked together by a National Board of Directors made up of Alumnae Sisters.
In the Spring of 1977, Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority was incorporated in Rutland, Vermont. This historic date marks the beginning of a bond which nearly 2000 women have shared to date.
Each Spring, Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority holds a National Convention in conjunction with Kappa Delta Phi National Fraternity. This event is one of the major highlights of the academic year. During Convention, chapters and individual sisters are recognized for their outstanding achievements in a variety of areas. At each Convention, the National Scholarship is awarded as well. Chapters return to their home sites with trophies, plaques, and certificates denoting their achievements. This Convention is unique from other National Sororities in that it is the only one that invites each and every sister, active or alumnae, to participate.
